1. “King of the Bull Ring”–Last week, at Christopher’s football practice, they were playing “Bull in the Ring”. It’s a tackling drill where one player (THE BULL)stands in the middle, and the others make a circle around him. The coach calls a number and that player tries to go in and knock down THE BULL. Well–when Christopher was THE BULL, each of the other 11 players tried, but none of them could knock him down. THEN–the coach said “1 THRU 11″–and sent ALL of them after Christopher at the same time–EEKKK!!! I was hollering “Personal foul, coach; Mom calls a personal foul! Don’t send all 11 after my boy at the same time!” Christopher had an extra swagger in his step that day, since none of them could knock him down!! ![]()
2. “Library Love”–I DO love my local library!
Especially since they have started a shelf where they have books for SALE–25 cents for paperbacks and 50 cents for hardbacks. This is SOOOO totally dangerous for me, a book addict! And they add new ones all the time, so I WANT to go every day–but I can’t go TOO often; our house is overflowing with books as it is . . .
3. “A Rant”–WHY is it that it is hard to find a good book to read that doesn’t involve tons of nasty words or S-E-X?????? I can’t even count the number of books just this year that I’ve started and haven’t finished, because of one or both of those reasons. (A lot of those are ones I got at our library sales too!) Now I admit to being a bit of a prude; but I CAN handle a LITTLE of both. But one special word that starts with “F” has been featured a lot, and I CAN.NOT.STAND that word! (And it has been much more than just once or twice that it’s been used, too!) And I can handle a little “tumbling” as my Grammie used to call it; but when you start going into explicit, intimate details–SOOOO unnecessary! Those two thing can totally destroy an otherwise GREAT story for me . . . Ah well–TMI for you I’m sure; but there’s my rant!! LOVE TO ALL!
King of the Bull Ring, Library Love, and a Rant
September 26, 2009Prayers, Not Condemnation
September 7, 2009I have been disturbed in the last few weeks by all the condemnation, even bashing, of our President. Many people, especially Christians, have been slamming his policies, decisions, etc. Now, I may not (and definitely do not!) agree with him on some things. BUT–he IS our President; and the office itself, and the man who fills that office, deserve some respect. None of us can understand the weight that has to be on his shoulders. No one, not even he, can understand every ramification of every decision made. And no one can always know what is best in every situation. So, more productively, let us pray for our President and his advisors–that the Lord will grant them wisdom and strength to lead our country in the way that is best.
FOR YOU
August 21, 2009Whenever I have extra time AND money (which isn’t often that I have either!) I love to browse thru Mardels’ bargain CDs. It’s usually a trip down memory lane, as I find artists/CDs from a decade or two ago to replace cassettes that I still have. SHEESH!
Anyhoo–early this summer I found Michael W. Smith’s album “Go West Young Man” from 1990. A fun, quirky song on there that I love is “For You.” It’s not quite the same without the music accompaniment; but it’s a good message of friendship, love, and helping our brother–so I wanted to share the lyrics with you.
FOR YOU by Wayne Kirkpatrick, Michael W Smith, & William Owsley III
- Sittin’ in the rain
- Water on the brain
- Got a hole in your boat
- Trying to stay afloat
- Has got you down
- I’ve got a wind in my sail
- Rubber boots and a pail
- I’ll throw you a line
- Rest assured that I
- Won’t ever let you drown
(chorus)
- ‘Cause when you’re up against the wall
- You know I’ll be here for you, for you
- When you rise and when you fall
- I’ll always be here for you, for you
Second Verse:
- When the plans you make
- Fall through and take you
- For a loop
- Or some bird has flown the coop
- And left you stranded
- Just lean on me
- And together you see
- We’ll carry the load
- Even if we don’t
- Quite understand it
Quick “Ketchup” Blurbs
August 16, 2009TOO long since my last post; TOO busy summer; TOO much to catch up on; and NOT enough time to catch up on it all–so here’s a quick summary:
1. Christopher started FIRST GRADE this week–WOW! Hard to believe; summer just flew by! So far the first couple of days went well; of course he IS a boy, so he doesn’t really like to sit in class and do the schoolwork–but he’ll live!
His teacher seems nice, and there are several boys in the class that he already knew, so that helps.
2. Christopher is also playing his first year of football–DOUBLE WOW!!! Actually we’ve made it a family affair–Terry is assistant coach, and I’m “Team Manager (Mom)”. It’s been very busy so far–practices 3 nights a week, and his first scrimmage was yesterday. So far it’s been going pretty well; and Christopher has been working REALLY hard learning to tackle and block people–hopefully this will get some of his aggression out in an acceptable way!
3. Friday was my “Christopher’s back in school so I’m playing day”–so I went to a movie in the theater by myself! Only the second time I’ve done that. I saw “The Time Traveler’s Wife.” I’d read the book; but liked the movie even better! The book had a good story, but used a certain nasty word on almost every page that I HATED; plus got a little creepy in places, and a LOT of S-E-X. But–the movie kept the good story and left out all the parts I didn’t like–WINNER!!!
4. Tuesday I start staff meetings for the new year at my Preschool. Looking forward to meeting all my new little friends in my class this year!

Figuring Things Out???
July 14, 2009Last night at the dinner table, something was mentioned about “figuring something out.” Christopher pipes up and says, “I’ve got Mommy figured out.” Amused (and maybe a little offended–am I THAT easy to figure out??? Women ARE supposed to be mysterious after all . . .) I asked, “What have you figured out about me?” His answers:
1. You have a big heart. (AWWWW–sweet!)
2. You have a big silly. (Must plead guilty to that one!)
3. You are pretty small. (Okay–BIG BROWNIE POINTS for the little man on that one-HA!)
4. You sound like a woman.
5. You act like a woman.
6. You have woman’s hair.
(Okay–since I AM woman, those 3 will work.)
AND–7. You have a woman’s little brain. (W-H-A-T????????)
Now, in his defense–I KNOW he didn’t mean “little” in the sense of “small”; he DOES like to use “little” when he’s trying to be cute. BUT–I told Terry that I could get him in a LOT of trouble, with people wondering what he’d been teaching our son . . .

“GEEK FEST” aka Trek Expo 2009
June 28, 2009
geeky
At the Trek Expo–me with Corin Nemec, who played Jonas Quinn for a couple of seasons on Stargate SG-1. Nice anecdote–as it was almost my turn to take pics with Corin the batteries fell out of my camera–YIKES!!! I was already excited about meeting him; then trying to put the batteries back in the camera I was so nervous my hands were shaking!!! Corin was SOOO nice about it, trying to calm me down and help me feel better–he was sweet!
Me with Mira Furlan, who played Ambassador Delenn on Babylon 5; and Danielle Rousseau on LOST–she’s gorgeous!!
Yes–they even had a replica of the Ghostbusters car–COOL!
They have the Trek Expo in Tulsa every year, but it had been several years since we attended. The price is pretty steep; so there has to be a big draw (for us) to go. I didn’t even care that there were more famous people from Star Trek there (won’t mention names to avoid getting in trouble-HA); but I KNEW I wanted to get Corin and Mira to sign autographs and take pics–and I did–:SQUEE:!!! Also got to listen to Marina Sirtis who played Deanna Troi on Star Trek the Next Generation; she’s beautiful and ornery and hilarious! We’ll see who they bring next year if I go back next time–but this time was fun!
American Idol–Season 8
May 19, 2009
Yes, this week is the finale for American Idol Season 8. After the talent, and DAVID COOK!!, last season, I wasn’t sure how this season could match it. Well, this season couldn’t MATCH last season exactly of course; but it has been as good as last season in many ways.
The talent has been phenomenal. Matt Giraud, Allison Iraheta, Danny Gokey–they are out of the competition now, but are greatly missed–and I will probably be buying ALL of their albums!
Now, we’re down to the final two. One–high profile, edgy, big-town guy with a hard-rock image who seems to have the backing of the judges. The other–low-key, humble, small-town boy who has been considered a “dark horse” in the competition but has risen to the finals with no prior exposure and little press.
One–Adam Lambert–I definitely see where he would appeal to a lot of people, but his music just isn’t my style–too much of the hard-rock type of “screaming.” (Altho on myspace one of my friends who blogs about American Idol says “but he screams in tune, and not even Axl Rose can do that!” Gotta give you that point, Sandra!
The other–Kris Allen–we barely saw his face before the voting started. In the past contestants have complained that the reason they were voted off was because they didn’t get enough exposure on the show before the voting started. Well–Kris has proven that you don’t have to have camera time; you just gotta be GOOD!!!! (Or, as his fans say, “KICK-AWESOME”!) He can play guitar and piano; can sing tender or a little edgy; and can re-arrange old familiar songs so that they sound totally new and fresh. He has talent overflowing; but most of all he seems like a really great, down-to-earth, cool, and humble kind of guy. I will DEFINITELY be voting for him tonight; and will be one of the first in line to buy his album! (If it worked, that should be his pic at the beginning of this post.)
Tonight’s competition should be a study in contrasts; can’t wait to see how it turns out . . . Whoever wins, they BOTH should have big careers ahead of them!
